Upcycling mobiles
In the last decade, upcycling- the process of turning used and unwanted materials into something of aesthetic or practical value- has boomed as an art form, spawning a whole new chapter of design. But many of the skills needed to transform materials such as metal, wood and plastic, into objects of art have been lost or are skills now too costly in the West to make the business of upcycling profitable.

But in Africa, and in Senegal especially, those skills are alive and well. On every corner in Dakar there are carpenters, metal workers and tailors, all existing within the city’s rich arts scene. Loman’s hanging mobiles gather these skills and objects considered ‘rubbish’ and use them to create unique pieces of art that can make any home or outdoor space look special.

Each piece has its own character- either dressed up with the use of glitterballs or simply designed to catch the wind so that the piece turns in the wind and sparkles in the light- and they are all made by hand, with love and great attention to detail.

Pour fêter l’évènement : 15 jours de promotions du 15 décembre 2011 au 1er Janvier 2012 et un re-design du magasin, à voir absolument.

A cette occasion, Green Eyez Design a créé les supports de communication, une collaboration de confiance qui dure depuis l’installation de iStory.

A l’image d’un mac qui n’est pas qu’un bel objet, le support de communication, n’est pas qu’un beau visuel. Il s’agissait ici de rendre les produits attractifs et de mettre en avant leurs qualités de technologies de pointe et professionnelles, en s’adressant au pros, comme aux amateurs, de son, vidéo et design.

Lors de l’ouverture du premier magasin à Point E en 2009, le défi a été de concevoir le logo, la charte graphique ainsi que le totem et les affiches du magasin en accord avec les normes d’Apple, tout en créant une identité propre à l’Apple store iStory.

L’objectif atteint à marqué le début d’une longue collaboration entre Green Eyez Design et iStory .

La société n’avait pratiquement pas changé le design de ses packagings depuis sa création, il fallait rendre les produits plus attractifs et présentables à l’exportation.

Nous avons pour cela crée un nouveau logo, dynamique et chatoyant en rapport avec les codes couleurs utilisés dans l’industrie alimentaire. Le design d’une tête de lion – symbole du Sénégal – y a été intégré afin de souligner l’origine des produits.

Les packaging on été redésignés dans un esprit marketing de différenciation et d’attractivité. La gamme des couleurs à été déclinée de façon harmonieuse et selon la spécificité des produits. Ceci afin de permettre au consommateur de les reconnaître au premier coup d’œil dans des rayons de grande distribution.

L’objectif était de donner un souffle nouveau et faire connaître une société déjà en place depuis longtemps et dont le positionnement métier est particulier. Nous avons commencé par un re-design du logo et une charte graphique complète afin de rafraîchir l’image de la société. Puis nous avons développé un concept de visuels mettant en scène des sinistres de façon humoristique afin de dédramatiser la situation.

Le but étant d’expliquer pourquoi il est important de s’assurer et de démontrer l’avantage évident d’une souscription chez SOSERCA plutôt que chez une autre société d’assurances.

L’objectif était d’offrir une nouvelle dynamique visuelle à une société bénéficiant déjà d’une bonne notoriété et crédibilité mais communiquant peu.

Pour commencer, nous avons effectué un re-design du logo puis décliné la charte graphique complète afin de redynamiser l’image de la société. Nous avons ensuite travaillée sur un concept visuel mettant en avant l’aspect professionnel et haut de gamme des produits de CFI afin d’affirmer son positionnement.

Biography

When Africa is your homeland and Dakar your playground, when the soundtrack of your childhood mixes traditional Senegalese music with James Brown or Pink Floyd, when the explosive sounds of Public Enemy radically changes your musical vision and determines which road to take, and when everyday on the way to school you cross the path of someone who, without knowing it, shares the same artistic ideas and dreams of cultural and social emancipation, then it is natural that this chemistry sparks a musical project which maps your adult life.

In 1992, Faada Freddy and N’Dongo D decided to work together. Hip Hop came naturally to them, despite the genre and its representation of everyday life coming from afar, yet the spirit was seemingly encrypted into a collective memory as it was simply a modern continuation of traditional griot rhapsodies from their native countries.

The evidence stands for itself: the music and its hope of communion is what has become their life mission.

So they began by rapping in their wolof dialect, then opened up to all the musical influences that helped them shape who they are today: funk, soul, pop, reggae, traditional music. They created the band Daara J and threw themselves into the task ahead with all the passion and haste of an urgent mission, a quest to conquer a world full of promise.and the world was not able to resist them, they performed more than 1,000 concerts around the planet, opening for Wyclef Jean at the Lincoln Center, for Mos Def at the Hollywood Bowl, playing at WOMAD with Peter Gabriel which took them to Australia, New Zealand, Korea, United Kingdom, Singapore, in France they also opened for Rita Mitsoukos, Zebda, Ayo and performed at the Transmusicales Festival as well at the Solidays Festival.

This gave birth to three albums, the eponymous album “Daara J” in 1997, “Xalima” in 1998 and “Boomerang” in 2003, which won the award for Best African Album at the BBC World Music Awards.

2007 brought a time for re-evaluation, putting things into perspective, a need for renewal.

Downsizing to just the two founding members, the project took the name of Daara J Family, and went back on tour, fortified by a new creative spirit. Following several collaborations (including playing at Damon Albarn’s Africa Express Project in London and Lagos), Faada Freddy and N’Dongo D began to work on a new album. This album is at last complete, and after listening to it, you realize the full extent of the knowledge this duo have and their incredible ability to unite New York, Dakar, Paris, and Kingston on a mesmerising musical journey which could only belong to them: pure hip hop, the haunting lament of Bayi Yon (one of the most beautiful melodies on the album), the unbridled funky spirit of “Oh why” and “Celebrate” (a killer dance floor track and the first single to be released from the album), the powerful rant of “School of life”, the tribal spirit of “Sun afreeca”, the sultry languor of “Tomorrow”, the powerful reggae of “Children”, the definitive combination of all of these musical influences of “Temps boy” (a song that plays in your head over and over).

And, of course, pulsating through the entire album like blood through a main artery are the rhythmic and hypnotic melodies of Africa, crimson like the boiling blood of hope, the sun-scorched dust of Sahel and the setting sun flaming the landscape of the promised land, a homecoming.

N’Dongo D’s raw voice is a perfect complement to Faada Freddy’s vocal surges. And once again they prove that they just know how to write beautiful songs.

If you happen to meet the two members of Daara J Family, you will no doubt be struck by the authenticity and consistency of their attitude and of the message they convey. They sing about solidarity, they remain true to their messages, their thoughts and beliefs, the need for sharing and learning from one another. The hope that we will all wake up to this path of righteousness is a recurring theme in their speech.

We could raise a half-hearted smile, but you see, this is not what happens… faced with so much passionate belief, you surprise yourself by really wanting to believe it, too.

Biographie

Le dialogue, la concertation : ce sont ces mots qui parlent le mieux de cet album de Niagass. En effet, l’artiste clame sa foi dans les paroles échangées, plutôt que dans la violence entre les personnes. En neuf titres, Niagass chante son attachement à sa terre Saint-Louisienne, son arrivée à Dakar, l’accueil de Guédiawaye, de ses quartiers : Baye Laye au domicile 814, Wakhinane, Daroukhane. Il défend un Sénégal prospère et sans bagarres, où chacun consomme les produits de sa terre. Il demande aux jeunes de rester dans leur pays et de le développer plutôt que de fuir vers des illusions étrangères…Il tourne en dérision les jeunes qui font les fiers dans leur maison et ont peur de sortir chercher du travail !

Il appelle l’Afrique à ne compter que sur elle-même, à ne plus dépendre des puissances étrangères. Il explique comment les bars sont des lieux où toutes les couches de la société, toutes les classes sociales, toutes les religions, toutes les ethnies se rencontrent et se retrouvent autour d’un verre. Ses textes et son flow sont toujours très caractéristiques : plein d’humour, de vie et de clarté, même quand ils abordent des sujets difficiles ou douloureux, comme l’immigration clandestine et le manque de travail des jeunes. Son rythme est à son image : hip-hop, baaye fall traversé de reggae. Dans sa voix s’entend une tristesse mélodieuse devant ce qu’est le monde et ce qu’il pourrait, ou devrait être ! Un monde de respect, de tolérance : de dialogues. Pas de clash habituel dans un certain rap, mais l’appel à la discussion, au partage.

Dans ce deuxième album solo, Niagass affirme sa place très particulière dans le paysage du HIP HOP GALSEN.
